West of Peachtree Road on the south side of Buckhead is Collier Hills and Loring Heights, which, along with Brookwood Hills on the other side of Peachtree was the site of the bloody Battle of Peachtree Creek.  Most of the houses here are in the traditional styles of the 1940s and `50s.  The Loring Heights neighborhood was built for the workers of Atlantic Steel Mill which closed in the early 1980s.   In the late 1990s Atlantic Station Redevelopment was started and has helped push property values way up.  With the completion of Atlantic Station slated for late 2005, Loring Heights should see even more significant property value increases. Homes in Collier Hills and Loring Heights are extremely popular with young couples, singles, and families.  A side benefit is that “souvenirs” of the battle are still found during landscaping and other renovations.

West of the I-75 interstate is a section of modestly priced neighborhoods that have been enjoying a renaissance.  Home Park, built as a working-class neighborhood, has been attracting new interest in recent years, particularly among the fixer-upper crowd.  The 1930s Berkeley Park, with its small frame cottages, has seen a resurgence of renovations and a bid to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Home prices run from the $150,000 to $350,000.
